Here are just a few ideas for some days out…

St Tropez and Cannes are 40 minutes away with Monaco one and a quarter hours’ drive where the best known Formula 1 Grand Prix is hosted around the 3rd week in May. If guests want to go further afield, the Italian market towns of San Remo and Ventimiglia are just 90 minutes by car.

The local area is also of great interest with the colourful market in Lorgues every Tuesday. Throughout the year, there are many fêtes and festivals to enjoy such as the Menton Lemon Festival held from February to March.

Alternatively, you could just soak up the sun while visiting any of the interesting towns and villages such as the lovely Port Grimaud (near St Tropez) created in the 1960’s as a private lagoon leisure city with inland waterways where yachts and offshore cruisers are parked at the bottom of every garden.

Discover the Gorges du Verdon - one of the most dramatic beauty spots in the south of France, approached by the Lac St. Croix, and the beautiful village of Moustiers Sainte-Marie is also within a reasonable driving distance. out.

Winetasting

Lorgues is surrounded by 20 plus vineyards and domains where one can spend a whole holiday and still not discover all the potential!

Golf

There are 15 golf courses in the Var of which St. Endreol is the most beautiful and Barbaroux the most challenging. At any of the Var Golf Clubs a facility exists whereby it is possible to purchase a pass which enables a golfer to play 5 of these courses at reduced prices.

The Largest Prehistoric Museum
in Europe

… is situated near the Gorges du Verdon in a tiny village called Quinson which also has a prehistoric village and a Neolithic garden. The museum is a tribute to the talent of its designer Sir Norman Foster (now Lord Foster).  Full information can be found at  the house.

The Region

Set between the mountains and the sea in the centre of the Var,  San Pietro is well situated as a base to tour the region of Provence.  It is a little over an hour's drive from the international airports at  Nice, Toulon-Hyères or  Marseilleand just 15 minutes from the TGV station at Les Arcs

There are many other nearby villages to visit.  Within a few kilometres - Flayosc,Salernes, Cotignac, Carces, Villecroze, Aups - all have their own character and charm with historical features of interest and a variety of restaurants and cafés.

The  Gorges du Verdon  and  Lake St Croix  are only 45 minutes away and offer swimming, canoeing and walking in breathtaking scenery. To the south is the Mediterranean -  Les Issambres,  St Aygulf, Frejus, St Raphael and  Sainte Maxime  and just a little further  St Tropez.

The Var region has many interesting chateaux, abbeys, wine domains, art exhibitions and frequent local markets.

The main auto route, the A8, is only 15 minutes away from Lorgues from which it is easy to drive to  Cannes  and Nice to the east  and  Aix en Provence and Marseille to the west.  Italy is a day's outing and so are the  picturesque islands  just off the coast by boat from  Le Lavandou  or  Hyères
